This year, THE ICONIC’s sixth annual RUNWAY X show was nothing like you’ve seen before. The lines between the real and the virtual were blurred in an effort to honour true self-expression in all forms.
Our RUNWAY X show featured an incredible line-up of talent, from international supermodel Duckie Thot, ‘Boxer of the 21st Century’ Harry Garside, break-out Heartbreak High star James Majoos, TikTok star Jarvis Aivali, medical student Jimmy Jan and First Nations model Elaine George, wearing the latest trends curated for style and functionality with everybody in mind.
One face we loved seeing on the night was Sydney-based model, Marty Thomas. At over 50 years of age, there’s no denying that he could hold his own on the runway. From wearing confident colours to grooming rituals, elevated accessories and ending the day with feet up and a glass of wine, keep scrolling to discover the mature model’s best tips for how to age with style.
Try Dopamine Dressing
Put your blacks and neutrals back into the closet and go for something much more joyful. Bright pops of colour were a major trend at THE ICONIC RUNWAY X show. Make like Marty and spark joy wherever you go by wearing confident colours like neon green, sunset orange and lemon yellow this summer.
Adopt A Grooming Routine
What’s the one grooming step Marty never skips? “A final check on the hair and beard – no wispy bits,” he says. Maintaining a grooming routine as you get older will help you look and feel your best. If you have a receding hairline, get a haircut that helps disguise thinning hair rather than hiding the evidence underneath a hat – or worse, a combover.

Upgrade Your Accessories
Updating your accessories is the easiest way to elevate your look for summer. Whether it’s some new season sneakers, the humble Birkenstock or even a pair of Crocs – the shoe of the moment – in an eye-catching hue, let your footwear breathe new life into your outfit.
Maintain Healthy Habits
To get runway ready, Marty has one ritual he swears by: to breathe, engage and be fully present. Having a morning routine and taking some time for yourself before your day starts is the best way to set yourself up for success. “I almost always wake at dawn or even before,” says Marty. “I quiet my mind and allow my 'Higher self' a moment of gratitude and wonder. If I don't feel it, I act like I do.”
Maintain Healthy Habits

As far as winding down at the end of the day, his routine looks a little different. “Feet up, glass of wine, chill tunes, good thoughts and good company (even if it is your own),” he says..
