This year, THE ICONIC’s sixth annual Runway X show was nothing like you’ve seen before. The lines between the real and the virtual were blurred in an effort to honour true self-expression in all forms.
Our Runway X show featured an incredible line-up of talent, from international supermodel Duckie Thot, ‘Boxer of the 21st Century’ Harry Garside, break-out Heartbreak High star James Majoos, TikTok star Jarvis Aivali, medical student Jimmy Jan and First Nations model Elaine George, wearing the latest trends curated for style and functionality with everybody in mind.
One face we were excited to see on the runway was wheelchair-bound model Elaria Baysari, but sadly she was unable to attend the show due to unforeseen circumstances. We caught up with her pre-show to discuss inclusivity in the modelling industry, how she gets her skin runway ready and the manicure mistake you're probably making.
How did you get your start in modelling?
“Initially, I wasn't actively pursuing a modelling career, but I did have previous scouting interests from a couple of agencies in my teens. When I decided I was ready to pursue it, I wanted to find an agency that aligned with my mission to diversify and positively impact the modelling industry. I found Everi-Body Model Management online and sent Nikki (Founder of Everi-Body) an email questioning her approach to diversity and inclusivity whilst communicating my interest to be signed. I received a quick response back, had an online interview, and the rest is history!”
What’s the one ritual you swear by for getting runway ready?
“Skincare, skincare and skincare! I normally follow a very condensed and simple routine on normal days, but for a shoot or runway show, I adopt a more detailed and consistent regime to make sure I have the best skin possible. I absolutely love a dewy, lit-from-within kind of glow! My favourite steps to achieve smooth, glassy skin are exfoliation and a quick 3-minute LED light therapy session at home in the morning and evening.”
You’re also a nail manicurist, tell us about your business The Nail CEO?
“I launched The Nail CEO during Sydney Lockdown 1.0 in October 2021 after becoming a licensed Manicurist. I specialise in Builder in a Bottle (BIAB) gel manicures, and gel extension services. The aim of my brand is to promote natural nail health and educate clients about proper nail care through the delivery of luxury, high-end nail services.”
What are the most highly requested nails from your clients?
“I'd have to say either almond or square-shaped nails are the most highly requested alongside a classic French manicure or a natural pink base.”
What’s the biggest mistake people make when trying to maintain their manicures in between appointments?
“They don't hydrate their nails with cuticle oil twice a day! I have some clients coming back to me with super dehydrated nails that have curled, which caused lifting on the sides of their nail enhancements. It's super important to oil your cuticles twice a day as it will keep your nails flexible and strong. It will also prolong the life of your mani so they don't lift. Just like our skin, our nails and hands need extra love and care as well.”
