While you may feel like curling up on the couch as the sun sets, it turns out that after dark may actually be the best time to sweat it out. In fact a study by the University of South Carolina found that running after dark can help you sleep better, while another study from the London University found night running can help you move faster.

Gear up

Gear up
Like running during the day; you’ll need breathable leggings or shorts (preferably with lots of pockets), plus a comfortable top and killer sports bra. Don’t forget to run with your phone (on an arm band) and you could consider a flask belt or strap-on bottle to carry your water.
The right support

The right support
Running after dark requires shoes that can support your ankles, especially as you might be putting extra stress on them by running on uneven, unseen cracks and potholes. Don’t forget to get enough cushioning for the ball of the foot as well.
Where to train

Where to train
Where you run is up to you, but in general it’s better to opt for well-lit areas, and avoid cliff edges and uneven roads! Connect your Under Armour HOVR trainers or favourite GPS watch to your smart phone via apps like MapMyRun to track your favourite routes and receive personalised coaching tips along the way.
Buddy up!

Buddy up!
Grab a friend. It is always helpful having someone by your side, not only for motivation, but for safety in the dark too. Link up with your running buddies and tackle the streets together. Consider clothing with reflective qualities for ultimate visibility.
