The Trends We’re Taking into the New Year

Hold on to these and box all the rest

We had fun experimenting with our style this year; we gave bike shorts some undeserving attention, we counterbalanced giant straw hats with uber-tiny sunglasses and we gave our soles a break with chunkiest of sneakers. There were no regrets with our wardrobe decisions but if we had to choose a handful to take into the new year, these would be the styles to make the cut:

Silk scarves – thankfully they’re sticking around in the new year because they are our favourite all-rounder accessory – perfect for a quick hair fix, great as a necklace alternative, and even spruced up our everyday handbags.

Pool slides – the fashion crowd is making a strong case for flip-flops but we’ll still be holding on to our slides for as long as possible.

Teddy jackets – it might not be the weather for them now but the warm and fuzzies will still be around next winter so keep yours in the back of the closet and get ready to bring them out as soon as the temperature starts to drop.

Anything beige – neutrals have proved themselves to be as essential a wardrobe item as a little black dress. Keep your beige basics around and work them into every new trend that arises next year.

And anything bright too – Pantone announced that Living Coral is the colour for 2019, but we’ll be bringing other bold and bright colours back too. That pink suit you bought, those yellow shoes and that lilac dress were all worth the investment.

Tiny handbags – yes, we know they’re a little impractical for some but they're too adorable to not bring out, even if it is only once in a while. Just think of the size downgrade as an opportunity to cull the unnecessary crap you’ve been carrying around.

Animal prints – there’s no way we were giving up on leopard spots so soon, especially not after we just filled our entire wardrobe with them. 2019 is promising a return of big cat prints as well as python patterns, zebra stripes and more.

As for the rest of our 2018 wardrobe - like off-the-shoulder tops, basket bags, sock boots and the like - box them so you can bring them back in a few years’ time when the styles come full circle, as trends typically do.
