The Most Stylish TV Shows of 2020

It’s been a huge year for small screen stunting.

The best TV series of 2020 have three things in common: they all feature 20-somethings, they’re all tear-jerking, and they’re all stylish as hell. From humble fits in Dublin to the more outlandish wardrobes of New York and London, these TV shows have been pulling our emotional and sartorial heartstrings all year long.

Dry your eyes, it’s time to revisit the most moving looks on the small screen!

I May Destroy You

Written and co-directed by the supremely talented Michaela Coel, I May Destroy You is a tour-de-force of storytelling and style. In a sartorial homage to gritty East London, Coel proves that 20-something Londoners are still defining style on a global scale.

For these kids, it’s all about huge flex on a tiny budget.

Champion sweatpants, Carharrt long sleeves, oversized denim, cheap tourist tees, and beloved Air Max 97s all feature prominently in HBO’s visceral 12-part series. However, it’s male lead Kwame’s wardrobe that’s the real killer - his epic faux fur jackets, colourful bucket hats, and mini beanies presenting pops of colour across London’s drizzly afternoons.

A love letter to the enduring sartorial legacies of London heavyweights like Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, I May Destroy You is the ultimate style guide for 2020.

Search Party

HBO’s neo-noir Search Party is both a celebration and hilarious indictment of New York City hipsterdom.

Still, we can’t fault the series’ epic wardrobe.

Airing its third season in June, Search Party’s awesome foursome all navigate their awkward quest to adulthood through personal style and expression. The hipster sleuths adopt on-point Canadian tuxedos, bold striped sweaters, leather jackets (complete with copious zippers), and throwback 90s Reebok Rapide sneakers. But our favourite piece of series? Julian’s Urban Outfitters Paris ‘Dancing Lady’ hoodie.

If you really want to take NYC style nuclear, make sure to adopt any of Elliott’s maximalist wardrobe (just please leave the pink velvet where you found it).

Normal People

Sally Rooney’s perpetually heartbreaking Dublin romance also had a sartorial vision that played with our heartstrings. Minimalist and moody, Connell’s wardrobe featured sporty tracksuits, bucolic knitted sweaters, preppy collegiate fits for Trinity College, and Harrington jackets for nights outs in Dublin.

That said, it was Connell’s chain that was the real MVP. The tiny silver accessory sent the internet into overdrive back in April. Now all we need is Connell’s transcendental jawline.

High Fidelity

Arguably the most stylish TV show of the 21st century, High Fidelity went absolutely bonkers with their vintage fits.

A testament to 90s Seattle grunge, the show fit the whole cast with oversized cardigans, Hawaiian shirts, worn-leather outerwear (a homage to John Cusack’s character in the original High Fidelity), Dickies trousers, Nike Cortez, Vans Old Skool, and the obligatory David Bowie band tee.

With looks this good, how could Hulu cancel the show? We demand a second season!
