Building a grooming routine that’s right for you can take a lot of trial and error. Whether you’re a novice or a skincare aficionado, the number of products available for different skin types and concerns can be overwhelming – those 3-in-1 face, hair and body wash products seem like the simplest solution, but let’s face it, an all-in-one product isn’t going to take your complexion from lacklustre to luminous anytime soon.
We asked two male staffers at THE ICONIC to upgrade their skincare routines for one month with products designed for their individual skin types, to find out if the right grooming products can really change your complexion for the better.

Take us through your new morning and night skincare routine?
In my morning routine, I use the Clinique For Men Charcoal Face Wash first – I use about a 10 cent coin amount of product with a bit of warm water and apply it over my face. I then wash off with warm water. I then apply the Clinique For Men Anti-Age Eye Cream under my eyes – I only use a very small amount as a little bit goes a long way. I then apply the LAB SERIES Oil Control Daily Moisturiser which I use as much or as little depending on how my skin feels, it is usually about a 10 cent coin size. In the evenings, I use the Clinique For Men Charcoal Face Wash and then apply the LAB SERIES All-In-One Face Treatment before bed.

Did you find it hard to keep up with your new routine?
I found it personally to be easy, the products are all very easy to use and don't require much time to apply.
Have you noticed any changes in your complexion since adding the new products?
My skin feels really clean and I feel my skin doesn't dry out as much by the end of the day. The LAB SERIES Oil Control Daily Moisturiser keeps my skin hydrated for a longer period of time compared to the one I have used in the past. I think my skin looks clearer.
Has anyone else noticed a difference since you started using the products?
I had a few people – from work colleagues, family and friends – who noticed that my skin appeared to be very healthy and clear. I was told I looked "glowing" by a friend which I have never heard in 27 years of life so that was very positive to hear.
What was your favourite product?
The LAB SERIES All-In-One Face Treatment. I really enjoy using this product, particularly after washing my face in the evenings as it makes my skin feel very cool and soft. I felt this was good after working out at night to cool the skin down and felt better to sleep with on my skin rather than the moisturiser.
Which products will you continue to use?
The LAB SERIES All-In-One Face Treatment and the Clinique For Men Charcoal Face Wash I will continue to use and recommend.
Will you keep up your new skincare routine?
I will definitely continue to use the products and this routine and would recommend it to anyone.

Take us through your new morning and night skincare routine?
Each morning, I use all four products – Cleanse, Tone & Moisturise (Face and Eyes). Each night, I do the same, minus the Water Lotion. And every 3-4 days at night I will use the Oil Control Clay Cleanser & Mask as a mask, leaving it on for five minutes before rinsing and moisturising.

Did you find it hard to keep up with your new routine?
When I first started it wasn't the easiest – it was the most steps I have ever done in a daily routine. But honestly, after a week I was looking forward to it. The morning routine helped me feel fresh and ready for the day and my nighttime routine helped me feel clean and ready for sleep.
Have you noticed any changes in your complexion since adding the new products?
Honestly, my skin felt less oily after only a couple of days. I used to be really worried about breaking out because my t-zone would be oily by 3pm, now I get to my nighttime routine and my skin still feels fresh. I have also noticed my under eyes are far lighter than they used to be – I am actually no longer using concealer when I go out!
Has anyone else noticed a difference since you started using the products?
I have actually had a couple of close friends ask me if I am doing anything differently because I am looking fresher and more full of life, and of course, my mother was the first to notice (and reminded me that I am finally following the advice she distilled on me when I turned 13).
What was your favourite product?
The Oil Control Daily Moisturiser. It is the perfect consistency to hydrate my face without leaving it feeling oily. The longer I have been using it, the more I feel it has been improving my skin.
Which products will you continue to use?
Definitely the Oil Control Daily Moisturiser. I already have it saved in my Wishlist ready to re-purchase once I start to run low.
Will you keep up your new skincare routine?
Absolutely 100%! I don't think my skin has ever felt this healthy, and I am LOVING it!
