Getting a good men’s fragrance for summer is harder than probably any other season. Unlike winter and autumn, where both cool and warm fragrances play off the colder weather well, it can be exceptionally tricky to get one that plays well in the heat without being overwhelming or suffocating in warm conditions. Add this to the fact that we’re all sweating more and our skin is generally warmer, and just finding one with enough quality to stay on your skin becomes a challenge.
As such, many guys tend to play it safe and opt for uber-aquatic, super fresh fragrances. This is fine, but there are more ways to navigate the warmer months while still smelling great. And with that in mind, we thought we’d bring you some of our favourite newer picks, plus a few tried and tested summer fragrances, to spritz on this holiday season.
Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Giò Profondo
A new spin on a summer classic, the latest redux of Armani’s iconic Acqua Di Giò fragrance is even cooler and crisper than ever before, bringing a zesty mandarin and bergamot one-two punch to the fragrance’s timeless aquatic backbone.
Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme Ultime
One of the few spicy, aromatic fragrances out there that lends itself better to spring and summer than it does to the cooler months, L’Homme Ultime pulls off the balancing act thanks to a citrusy combination of top notes that hit the nose at first. Bergamot, Ginger, Grapefruit and Cardamom combine to heady effect.
Montblanc Explorer Ultra Blue
Icy and cool like the mountainous regions that Montblanc draws so much inspiration from, Ultra Blue is a fresh take on the brand’s ever-popular explorer scent, combining marine notes, citrus and freshly cut woods for a summer-ready fragrance that’s perfect for the day time.
Prada Luna Rossa Ocean
Inspired by the incredible ocean-going feats of the Prada Luna Rossa sailing team, the fashion house’s sportiest fragrance line doubles down on the seafaring vibes with the Luna Rossa Ocean Scent. It’s blue, fresh and evocative of ocean minerals, but also anchored by a combination of light floral scents and bright Italian citrus that’ll keep you coming back for another smell.
Coach Blue
Citrusy and Ozonic, Coach Blue is a summery scent that’s perfect if more aquatic scents aren’t really your thing. Black Pepper and Cedar wood provide the base notes, while a bright pop of lime over the top keeps things invigorating.
