Twenty-three kilograms of clothing are discarded per person each year in Australia – that means a huge six tonnes of textiles are added to landfill every 10 minutes. Why is that so bad? Well, clothes in landfill take many years to break down, sending unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions and pollution into the environment.
Let's do better. Together.
We have partnered with Salvos Stores and Australia Post to help address clothing waste – by providing customers in Australia with a pre-paid postage label you can now donate pre-loved clothes at any time, so that someone else can love and wear them. Money raised from selling donated goods will help Salvos Stores fund programs that assist people dealing with homelessness, addiction, emergency situations and family violence and provide financial and material support, advice and assistance to people impacted by the bushfires.
So how can you donate?
1. Grab any clothing in good condition that you no longer wear. A good test is to ask yourself ‘would I be happy to give this item to a friend?’
2. Place them in any spare delivery satchel or box you have at home. Tip: you can also reuse your delivery satchel from THE ICONIC if you don’t need to return your latest purchase.
3. Download your free shipping label, stick it on the package and drop it in any Australia Post Red Street Posting Box or Post Office!

But before you donate your clothing, here are a few things you can do to extend their lives...
Mindful washing
Wash your clothes on a colder wash, 30 degrees or less, so that they will last longer. And as a bonus you will also save money on your energy bills.
DIY and Repair
Sign up to that sewing class, watch online tutorials, grab a needling and learn how to fix your clothes. You can even get creative and give your clothes a new look.
Upcycle
Worn your favourite shirt so much it’s beyond saving? Why not transform it into a new bag? Upcycling takes some real skills but you’re learning a new craft and you’ll improve with practice. Look up some tutorials online and invite your friends over to help!
Note: only clothing items can be donated through this channel.
Salvos Stores does not accept used underwear, socks or hosiery.
The initiative is available for all of THE ICONIC’s customers in Australia and we are working on extending it to New Zealand in the near future.
