David Bowie knew how to party. For close on five decades, he gave us glam rock, plastic soul, and so much more – “Magic for a lifetime,” tweeted Kanye West.
Fame. Under Pressure. Suffragette City. You know them all. Bowie was a legend, an icon and an inspiration. “I was literally born with a David Bowie album in my hand,” said Hedi Slimane, while Tilda Swinton carried his Aladdin Sane album with her for years. Season after season, designers pay tribute to Bowie’s style, be it Ziggy Stardust’s, Starman’s, Aladdin Sane’s or The Thin White Duke’s.
In dapper suits, disco-ready cuts or sequined one-pieces, he brought ch-ch-ch-changes to the world as we knew it. He wore glittering catsuits tighter than anything Mick Jagger could even dream of. But Bowie, more than anything, told us it was OK to be as different, that to be weird was to be wonderful.
Like he said: “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”
Just dance.
