A Closer Look At Euphoria’s Top 4 Characters

Euphoric fits

Only a few TV series can truly rival Euphoria in the style department. Created by Sam Levinson and famously co-produced by Drake, the high school kids of East Highland certainly dilated pupils when Euphoria first debuted in 2019. Its labyrinth of fashion references has quickly propelled the series into pop culture superstardom. An unapologetic mashup of Y2K grunge and 90s streetwear, this warts-and-all portrayal of high school is simply dripping with inspiration.

To celebrate the release of season two, let’s take a closer look at Euphoria’s central style protagonists…

Fezco (Angus Cloud)
Fez has already become somewhat of an icon for streetwear stans across the globe, the high school dropout routinely stunts in the likes of Supreme, Palace and an archive of eye-catching polos.

The insouciant drug dealer unapologetically leans into his hip-hop sensibilities for wardrobe inspiration, with his gaudy, knit sweaters and neon tracksuits sitting in sharp contrast to his quiet (albeit ruthless) personality. There’s also plenty of throwback basketball sneakers in his arsenal, Fez was most recently seen lacing up a pair of Charles Barkley’s Air Max2 CB 94.

In later episodes, it’s revealed that Fez also doesn’t mind a visit to the luxury fashion stores, which is made evident in the appearance of his Dolce & Gabbana Maiolica print shirt.

An honourable mention also goes to Fez’s ten-year-old sidekick, the unfortunately-named ‘Ashtray’, who is absolutely smoking in a rotation of heavy-duty puffers, polo zip-ups, and an impressive vault of Air Jordans.

Rue Bennett (Zendaya)
Grunge, stoner-chic and chronic thrift shopper looks all power the adroginous aesthetic lens of Rue Bennett.

From oversized Hawaiian shirts (paired with tonal singlets and Chuck Taylors) to throwback plaid shorts, there’s plenty of inspiration here to burn through the summer months. Of course, her beloved zip-up hoodie has become bound to Bennett, the piece functioning as a kind of security blanket to her emotional exploits.

Costume designer Heidi Bivens has also been willing to experiment a little more with wardrobes in season two, revealing that she’s no longer committed to the idea that Euphoria’s characters wear only clothes they can afford – hence why we see Bennett in a Jean Paul Gaultier kimono wrap vest at the New Year’s party.

Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer)
Arguably the MVP in a sartorially seam-busting series, Jules Vaughn’s look is a mashup of e-girl irreverence, 1990s nods and bubblegum pop.

Vaughn’s ethereal homage to Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (1996) at the Halloween party is certainly a series highlight, but Vaughn’s everyday get-ups also serve as a sartorial lynchpin to the series. Hi-vis mini skirts, Kappa long sleeves, baroque prints, technicoloured hair extensions, chokers and chunky sneakers are all integral parts to Vaughn’s deft layering system. Interestingly, Schafer also reportedly customised and collaborated on much of the wardrobe.

Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie)
Maddy Perez’s stylistic impact in season two is already being felt on the internet. Google searches for black, cut-out dresses increased exponentially after the New Year's Eve episode, Perez’s black mini and matching gloves drove a dramatic 890% increase.

The gothic look reportedly foreshadows much of Perez’s internal outlook throughout season two, costume designer Bivens expressing a desire to reflect her darker side in the sophomore season.

In terms of personal style, the intrepid cheerleader adopts neck-cranking two-piece denim sets (with obligatory hip cut-outs), monogrammed Louis Vuitton exercise gear, and violet daisy-printed summer dresses which contribute to cementing the character as an ultra feminine heart breaker.
