3 East-coast Road Trips To Add To Your Bucket List

Let’s go for a spin in the car everyone’s obsessed with.

Let’s face it, vacays are in our own state this year, and thankfully there is so much to explore just a drive away. For over 90 years MG has been making cars people love to drive. Adventure knows no limits in the MG3, so we asked some of our friends to take us for a spin and tell us about their favourite local adventure.

City Escape
Want a scenic road trip that’s close to the city, with ocean views and sandy toes? Hop in the car to Sydney’s Palm Beach.

Helen Chik's idea of the perfect winter break is all about discovering a new part of her own city. “I can’t wait to get out of the house and into the sunshine because we’ve all spent so much time at home these last few months. Hearing the waves and enjoying a nice lunch with a view is definitely something I look forward to."

So she hopped in her MG3 with a girlfriend, and cued up the perfect road trip playlist with Apple CarPlay. As for the tunes on the bends leading up to the iconic headland, can't go wrong with blasting a mix of 90s and early 2000s hits – "Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, NSync, All Saints, Mariah Carey. Safe to say I have an entire playlist with old school hits".

Of course we wanted to know her ultimate getaway packing list. “It would be a baggy pair of jeans with a tee and hoodie. Depending on how much walking is required, a pair of comfy boots or sneakers is a pretty safe bet.”

“I love a good activewear look too but of course I’d make it ‘farshun’ and style it appropriately with accessories to suit the occasion!”

Walk up to Barrenjoey lighthouse for the best view and reward yourself with a coffee at The Boathouse afterwards, before the scenic drive home.

Scenic Picnic
Queensland girl, Prue Richardson and her BFF are “hunting down the ultimate picnic spot on Mount Coot-tha. Dressed for the drive in “something comfy but cool – I’ve opted for a short tracksuit set by Dazie. I’ve up-styled it by pairing it with a boot and an oversized teddy jacket by Lioness.”

And the ultimate addition when it comes to expressing her signature style? The transport, of course. Check out the MG3’s luxe tartan seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel.

What’s she most excited about? “A great playlist, a passenger playing DJ and COFFEE.” Don’t forget to fuel up – “nothing disrupts your road trip flow like having to stop at a petrol station.”

Her other must-packs? “SPF moisturiser for your face & your window side! Sunglasses and car snacks.” We agree, car snacks are key

She is not playing when it comes to her playlist. “I need 100% good vibes for scenic drives,” including Dua Lipa to sing your heart out to.

The MG3's split folding rear seats mean there's plenty of room to pack all the picnic essentials including your favourites from the local deli.

Perfect Beaches
The pristine beaches of Jervis Bay have to be seen to be believed. The sand is some of the whitest in the world and the water’s a crystal-clear turquoise.

“I’m so excited to be able to take a road trip down to my favourite place, Huskisson,” says Brittany Maggs. “I’m most excited that I get to be driving such a cute car down there. I love road tripping and with everything going on in the world right now it will be good to get on an open road with good tunes, great views and an awesome car.”

“I love stopping in little towns and trying their foods – especially bakeries! Good adventures, good company and beautiful views are my idea of the perfect weekend.” Want to make sure you can find all the hidden treasures off the beaten path? Easily done with the MG3's optional satellite navigation.

Once you’re down there, keep an eye out for whales and dolphins off the perfect white sandy beaches and stop in at local favourite, Huskisson Hotel, or ‘the Husky’, once all that scenic walking has earned you a cold drink.
