Getaways have turned into staycations this year. Think hunkering down and sheltering in cosy, cosy, place. Which demands a roaring log fire and aperitif. So why not choose local? We might be staying put right now, but that gives us plenty of time to plan out next adventure, once things open up again. So, BWS took us on a virtual tour of the country – did you know they stock 900 local products available across Australia? – to show us how to support local and what to sip by the fire now and when we get there. Discover more at one of their 1300 BWS stores nationwide.
NSW, Sydney’s Northern Beaches
Not to be overlooked during the winter months, Sydney’s Northern Beaches are removed enough to feel like a vacation and don’t only shine during summer. After all, a jumper and a winter beach walk are a beautiful pair. You’re spoiled for great beaches – much quieter than the city’s eastern suburbs – so take this time to do some research on which one you want to be based at and be sure to head for a drive all the way to the tip of the peninsula at Palm Beach.

Tas, Arvo Park Orchard
Dreaming of an escape? Plan a future trip to Devonport, Tasmania. Make sure you snap an Insta shot when you visit Tassie’s very own ‘big apple’ in Spreyton, then beanies at the ready as you pretend you’re in Italy at Arvo Park Orchard’s grand orchard house, with a chilled homegrown cider in your hand.

SA, McLaren Vale
South Australia might be known for its wineries, but once you’ve seen all the cellar doors, why not try something different in the McLaren Vale area? Pop a bottle in a Kinnon wine carrier and sip on some local gin with a sunset G&T down at Aldinga Beach. (...and while you’re planning, pick up a bottle at BWS and pretend you’re there with gin cocktails at home).

Qld, Burleigh Heads
Plot your next trip to beautiful Burleigh Heads, where you can walk the rugged headland and through the rainforest, looking for whales in spring. While you’re in the area, take a paddleboard to Tallebudgera Creek for an afternoon on the water, then settle in for a barbie with a local Black Hops Pale Ale.

WA, Denmark
Being that it’s the largest state, a trip to Western Australia is packed with options to see and do. Why not plan to begin your trip at the southern coast and tick off some off your bucket list spots? Sample the southern region of Denmark’s local Rockcliffe Quarram Rocks Shiraz by the fire while you’re planning, and then open a bottle when you’re there IRL.
