Perpetual locky D has most of us aimlessly wandering from room to room, looking like bleary-eyed Furbys. With hairdressers and barbers forced to temporarily close their doors in many parts of the country, it’s becoming harder and harder to take control of our manes. So, unless you want to pay a hairy homage to our primordial ancestors, we’ve outlined five simple ways to colour, cover and slice all from the comfort of your own home!
Buzz Cut
There’s a certain level of satisfaction gained from stepping straight out of the shower and not having to fuss with your hair. Clean, utilitarian and minimalist, the ‘buzz cut’ is a timeless classic. No longer aesthetically tied to military boot camps, Zayn Malik, David Beckham and Drake are all strong advocates for lopping off your locks, and with the weather slowly getting warmer, there’s no better time for a shear!

All the Colours of the Rainbow
With the Grateful Dead revival in full-swing, and psychedelia once again dilating pupils on the runway, it’s the perfect time to experiment with your hair colour. Plus, it might be a while before you’re back on the social circuit, so go nuts. Whether you try for volcanic orange, or conservative black, just remember one important thing: read the instructions on the box!

The Baseball Cap
Reluctant to even approach your hair follicles during lockdown? Consider the humble baseball cap, a sartorial lynchpin of streetwear for decades. Throwback New York Yankees baseball caps are always a home-run in the style department, but you also can’t go wrong with a Polo Ralph Lauren or tidy Carhartt number. The best part? No one’s going to tell you off for wearing it inside! Hell, you can wear it to dinner on your couch if you like.

DFW FTW
Channel your inner David Foster Wallace and wrap a bandana around your head or tie it below like A$AP. It’ll not only prevent your brain from dropping to the floor in lockdown (essential), but it’s also a great way to get your hair out of your face while working-out from home. Andre Agassi pioneered the bandana and headband look back in the 1980s, a visceral style still considered trailblazing today. There’s also plenty of throwback 80s nostalgia on TV at the moment like Physical and Glow to inspire you.

Bleach it, Baby
There’s been plenty of guys extolling the virtues of bleached hair of late. Hollywood’s latest Bondi convert Zach Efron stripped his hair colour to celebrate his new life Down Under, while Saturday Night Live fixture Pete Davidson and buddy Jonah Hill have also jumped on the bandwagon.
Yes, a hairstyle once confined to the acolytes of punk has become mainstream in the 21st Century, and there’s plenty of helpful online tutorials to get you started.
Just remember, bleaching can be a little tricky (and dangerous). Make sure to be conservative with the initial application, and if your scalp feels like it’s been dipped in the unholy depths of hell – rinse it out!
