Work From Home with… Tom Simpson

Where you’re working and what you’re wearing.

It’s easy to feel alone in this time of uncertainty, but we’re all in this together, so we’re inviting ourselves over! Virtually, of course. We’ve asked some of our friends for a peek into what working / staying / hanging at home looks like to them. Plus, who doesn’t want a nose around their house, fridge or wardrobe? First up, @thetalesofman.

Who are you and what do you do?
“Hi, my name is Tom Simpson and I am the Fashion Director here at THE ICONIC, aka @thetalesofman.”

Tom, talk us through your WFH space – is it a desk setup, a coffee table, a kitchen bench?
“I am lucky enough to have a seperate office here at my house. It's a simple set up where I can immerse myself into my work world. I bought my vintage desk a few months back from an antique store. I also have an Apple set up at home with a large monitor so I don't have to strain my eyes on a small screen.”

What are your at-home essentials – the things that are always close by?
“Working at home can be so dangerous with my office being next to the kitchen! I have a large collection of books along with my sketch pad for any designs and inspiration that come to mind while I am working.”

What makes it a good work/home outfit?
“I try and make sure that I still get dressed for work. It's very easy to slip into the loungewear but I find that doesn't get me in the mood for work. I like to wear linen when working from home as it's breathable and comfortable. Here I’m wearing Aere pants and a shirt.”

What the plan for your lunch break today?
“Before we went into lockdown I ensured I set up a home gym. This allows me to have a workout each lunchtime which really helps me focus and keep feeling fit and healthy.”

Do you take screen breaks?
“I make sure I have a coffee on my bedroom balcony each morning to take in the morning air and watch the sunrise. I will repeat this a few times throughout the day to make sure i get some fresh air etc.”

Who is keeping you company at home?
“At the moment I am working from home alone. My wife is still going to work each day and we have decided to keep our Daughter Venice in school while we can. I do drop her off and pick her up each day so I get some company for the last few hours of the working day. I do however have my dog Malibu by my side for most of the day.”

What’s your best WFH advice?
“Treat working from home like any other day. Get up nice and early, exercise and get dressed as if you were going to the office. Make sure you get out of the house for at least 30 minutes and keep staying healthy through both exercising and eating well.”
