What’s In Your Workout Kit?

6 things we never go to the gym without

If you’re a regular gym junkie, then packing your training gear is a no-brainer, it’s second nature, in fact you’re probably there so often that you’ve got your own locker with your name permanently engraved and even the cleaners know your routine.

But for those of us who are new to the idea of going to the gym (and you’re not alone), knowing what to take with you isn’t always that obvious.

We asked ICONIC insider and photographer behind THE ICONIC SPORT Challenge, Brandon Ng, what’s always in his gym bag.

A personalised playlist

Most gyms have tunes pumping 24/7, but if you really want to get in the zone, make a playlist tailored to your likes and don’t forget your wireless headphones.

Clothes to workout in

Look for moisture-wicking properties, like PUMA’s dryCELL technology, that will keep you feeling dry even though you’re working up a sweat. If you like working out in shorts then consider styles that have split sides – when you’re doing dynamic movements like deep lunges and squats, you want coverage but don’t want to feel restricted in your movements. Wearing leggings under shorts are also a good idea in winter – they help speed up your warm up and allow you to stretch properly without feeling exposed.

Proper trainers

Avoid working out in your everyday sneakers. Look for shoes specifically designed to assist your performance, like PUMA’s Mantra trainers, and save your Thunder Spectra’s for the outside world.

A drink bottle

Most gyms have cold water filters so avoid spending your loose change on single-use water bottles and invest in one you can use over and over again.

Clothes to change out of

It sounds obvious but people will remember to pack their day-to-day clothes but forget to include a spare change of underwear and socks. Including a lightweight jacket is always a good idea too, so that your body can slowly cool down after a big workout.

Toiletries

If you’re not heading straight home, then don’t forget to bring your regular toiletries like moisturiser and, most importantly, deodorant.
