Inspired by her unique sense of creativity and her passion for redefining fashion for women who dress modestly, we asked Nawal to share her style tips for the season.
My signature style is comfy and stylish. I never leave the house without my rings stacked or a few layered necklaces, and somehow I’m always carrying an extremely impractical mini bag - purely because it’s cute!
I’m a sucker for extravagant sleeves - even if I’m just going to uni or running errands. My go-to look is a pair of wide-leg jeans with a turtleneck or a balloon-sleeve top. I love an outfit that’s super easy to put together but features details that make it that little bit extra.
When I’ve got an event, I become more adventurous with colours and textures. I like to see it as an opportunity to be more experimental with my style and wear something that I wouldn’t on an average day, like double denim or a leather outfit with bold green eyeliner.
My favourite accessory right now is a bandana styled with my hijab. It’s so Y2K and gives me Cheetah Girls / old-school R&B / Lizzie McGuire vibes. Often when you wear the hijab you get sick of doing the same look or wearing the same colours, so this trend has allowed me to be creative on the daily. It’s something I’ve held onto and have incorporated it into a lot of my looks.
I have so many references for style inspiration – 90s films and music videos are some of my favourite. I also find women like Jorja Smith, Bella Hadid, @noore, @mariaalia, @fengfan, @sk8tederella_ and @salmajj so inspiring.
My hack to make any outfit more modest is a simple turtleneck. Finding one that’s breathable and good-quality was the best purchase I have ever made.
