Whether you’re staying in and watching a rom-com or have a hot date lined up, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner meaning that love is in the air! So why not set the mood by changing up your everyday nails for something fun and flirty. Alternatively, if you like to keep your manicure low key, you can’t go wrong with classic french nails.
Whatever your style, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to try something new – whether that’s adding a few extra details to your manicure with nail art or just switching to a colour you wouldn’t normally wear. “Every year classic reds and pinks are always requested a lot and of course, lots of love heart designs,” says Nail Artist, Jenna Lynch. If red or pink nails are your usual go-to, try a different shade variation to mix things up. Try switching from a cool-toned red to a warm-toned shade. If you love wearing nude pink polish, go for a bright pink or magenta shade.
If you prefer a more subtle look, tiny details can take your nails to the next level without being overpowering. Jenna suggests adding a cluster of delicate little hearts, red roses or simple swirls in a pink hue to one nail as a feature or to all nails over a perfect nude base colour “this also looks great on a classic set of white french tips or a clean semi-sheer nude nail.” Want to try something more daring? “Hand-painted candy hearts with ‘Love U’, ‘Be Mine’ or ‘Kiss Me’ can look really cute and eye-catching,” says Jenna.
If you can’t decide on a look, you really can’t go wrong with a classic white french tip. “It looks good on any length and won’t clash with your outfit,” suggests Jenna. After you’ve found your perfect nail design, keep your nails looking loved up by using hand cream regularly to help prevent hangnails and dry skin.
