With Cinco de Mayo around the corner, now is the perfect time to start planning a holiday to Mexico! Here’s five places to consider stopping by:
For beach lovers: Tulum
Known for its aqua-blue water, bleach-white beaches and romantic bungalows, Tulum on the Yucatán Peninsula is also home to some spectacular restaurants and the impressive ruins of a pre-Columbian Mayan walled city, which cling to craggy rocks overlooking the beach.
For foodies: Oaxaca City
This UNESCO World Heritage-listed city in central Mexico not only has well-preserved colonial buildings, a strong indigenous culture and boutique hotels, but it’s also become somewhat of a foodie hotspot. Try the local specialty tamales de mole negro wrapped in banana leaves, with a Mezcal chaser.

For history buffs: Chichén Itzá
One of the best-preserved Mayan ruins in Mexico, this pre-Colombian complex on the Yucatán Peninsula is immense and deserves a couple of days. You’ll love the Temple of the Warriors and the Wall of the Skulls.
For culture cats: Mexico City
Big, busy and bustling, Mexico City is a melting pot of history, art, culture, politics and gastronomy. For a night out at a hip restaurant, head to the neighbourhoods of Condesa and Polanco.
For celeb spotters: Los Cabos
Everyone from George Clooney to Drew Barrymore, Oprah to Gwyneth Paltrow have been spotted in this part of Baja California. Book a table at one of the more exclusive nightspots, such as The Cape Hotel's sixth-floor rooftop bar, and keep your eyes peeled.
