In support of the local designers whose collections were runway-ready for MBFWA this year, we’re giving you a sneak preview of what’s in store for AW20.

As we mark the week that would have been MBFWA’s 25th, we check in with the designers who would have walked their new collections. Below, Maggie Marilyn (whose pieces regularly feature in our CONSIDERED edit) kindly shares with us a sneak preview of her soon-to-drop efforts.

Tell us a little bit about your collection?
“Season 9 is our first collection where I embraced a more neutral colour palette, introducing a significant portion of black for the first time while also taking a step towards more simplicity in design. I started Maggie Marilyn straight out of university and so I feel that as I am maturing, so too are aspects of my designs.”

What were you thinking about / listening to / watching / vibing while it was in the works?
“Whenever I am designing a new collection I leave the city and head for my childhood home in the countryside. The open space, peace and quiet calm my mind and allow me to be my most creative. Nature is my medicine and inspires my collections season after season. When I was designing this collection I was also watching a lot of movies from the late 80s and early 90s. I love Kate and Leopold with Meg Ryan, the collection was centered around this beautiful black dress she wore while having dinner on a rooftop in New York CIty.”

Who is the Maggie Marilyn girl?
“The Maggie Marilyn girl is a dreamer. She is quietly confident; strong, yet sensitive. She is firm in her beliefs; kind, yet never afraid to speak the truth. Elegant and timeless, yet never boring. A feminist, while openly vulnerable and obsessively passionate. She is an environmentalist, pays attention to the little things and fights for the underdog. She is an extremely loyal friend, lover, sister, and mother. She believes anything is possible.”

What are you wearing most from your current collection?
“I have been living in my Still Dreaming trousers. Their beautiful organic cotton is so soft and comfortable, perfect for couch to conference call!”
