Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia has been cancelled this year. Set to celebrate their 25th anniversary, the global fashion event was due to commence this Sunday 10th May, giving local designers the opportunity to showcase their upcoming collections. Instead, they’ve been running Fashion Week Interrupted on their @fashionweekaus instagram channel, featuring messages from key members of the fashion industry about the week that would have been. As it’s always been one of favourite fashion events of the year, we asked stylist Tara Morris to share what she loved most about attending MBFWA.
What’s your favourite thing about fashion week?
"My favourite thing about Fashion Week is actually the special dinners that some designers put on – it's a more intimate way to view the collection and a nice way to catch up with friends too."
What’s one insider secret you love about attending shows?
The one thing I secretly loved about attending shows was seeing the gift bag on the seat upon arrival! It could range from a tasty donut to a Clarisonic – such a treat!

What show/s do you always look forward to?
"Every year is a surprise – Romance Was Born always puts on a spectacular show, but my favourite is usually Lee Mathews."
What’s your hope for future fashion weeks?
"I presume they’ll go virtual? But I hope they still have that element of surprise and delight. Going forward, I think brands will need to rethink how they create a buzz around their label, and I have a good feeling that some cool new ideas will come about!"
As for what we planned on wearing...
