On her 60th birthday we look at the singer’s timeless style

She blessed us with the soulful ballad “Smooth Operator” among many others, and more recently, the hauntingly beautiful “Flower of the Universe” from Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time (if you’re too young to remember her hits from the early ‘80s and ‘90s).

The Nigerian-British singer, who turns 60 today, has not only made her mark in R&B history with her instantly recognisable vocals and smooth jazz sounds – her timeless style and truly effortless look is our forever inspo too.

If we were brave enough, we’d get her flawless face tattooed on our torso like Drake, but for now we’ll stick to scrolling through old photos, listening to her greatest hits on repeat, and wearing red lipstick in her honour.
