Meet Ziah, Our More Sustainable Swimwear Crush That’s Wearable Beyond The Beach

Simple, sexy, and more sustainable.

It’s simple, it’s sexy, and it’s more sustainable – local swimwear label Ziah has landed on THE ICONIC and it’s set to shake up your wardrobe rotation, regardless of the weather forecast. The latest collection titled Egan blurs the lines between swimwear and ready-to-wear, with each piece thoughtfully crafted using more sustainable materials that put both the body and the environment front of mind.

Featuring bikini bras and strappy one-piece swimsuits that wouldn’t look a step out of place teamed with silk shirts and soft tailoring, we caught up with designer Erika Toscano to talk style tips and sustainability.

What’s the inspiration behind the latest Ziah collection?
“As with any Ziah collection, I was inspired by the spirit of the audacious women who are unafraid to push boundaries and overcome barriers in the name of self-expression. With our latest collection, Egan, I focused on creating pieces that truly allow the Ziah woman to emanate her sensuality, without limitations. In doing so, I hope to inspire this woman to fall further in love with her body and uncover her most sumptuous facets.”

“I was inspired by the overtly sensually revealing lines and asymmetric feminine shapes designed by Jean Paul Gautier and worn by Madonna – the ultimate example of the fearless woman – as well as the femme fatale figures pictured in Art Deco illustrations from the 20s. Each piece exudes texture and volume, with quilted details, boucle fabric and rouleau straps. I also collaborated with Byron-Bay artist Jordana Henry, she dove deep into the nude female form.”

What’s the significance of using more sustainable fabrics?
“One of Ziah's missions is to put people and our planet first, so it is only natural that we consciously source materials that minimise environmental impact. Amni Soul Eco® is the world's first biodegradable polyamide 6.6 yarn, which has been improved to allow clothes made with this yarn to quickly decompose after being disposed of. We also use ECONYL which is revolutionary because it is made by fishing nets and other nylon waste collected from oceans and landfills, and does not use any harmful substances in its production or dye process.”

How would you style your favourite Ziah pieces from beach to bar?
“I have been wearing the Fine Strap one-piece a lot, especially while vacationing here in Brazil, with my favourite trousers, which are vintage and actually made for men. I love to mix Ziah's sensual, feminine pieces with masculine garments; it's a look that is easy to put together and exudes elegance and versatility.”

If the new Ziah collection came with its own music playlist, what would it sound like?
“It would sound sexy, fun and playful.”
