5 Of The World’s Most Instagrammable Travel Destinations

Epic pics uploading…

Have TikTok travel videos and intrepid Instagram accounts turned your skin green with envy? You’re not alone. With the world once again opening up to travel, wanderlust has come knocking at our door and there’s only one thing to do: stretch our wings and take flight! But forget the perfectly cliche postcard travel destinations – we’ve seen enough botched attempts at ‘holding’ the Eiffel Tower (sorry, mum).

From Morocco’s ‘Blue City’ to colossal fortresses straight from Game of Thrones, these are five of the most Instagrammable travel destinations to visit!

Chefchaouen, Morocco

Famous for its surreal pastel blue hue, Moroccan city Chefchaouen is nestled in the Rif Mountains. Riddled with serpentine cobbled alleyways, 15th century medinas and artisan workshops, Chefchaouen (affectionately known as ‘The Blue Pearl’) is certainly worth the journey.

Founded in 1471, the town originally served as a Moorish fortress. The blue-washed village is thought to owe much to its Jewish ancestors for its dreamlike aesthetic, the tradition of dyeing thread with tekhelet (ancient natural dye), a logical extension to the town’s vivid architecture.

For those looking for even more elevation, the Rif Mountains are also an outpost for some of Morocco’s best hikes!

Kyoto, Japan

Still the spiritual pulse of Japan, Kyoto is home to more than 2000 temples. A gateway to Japan’s long-held religious traditions, the meditative city is dotted with Zen gardens, bamboo groves and teahouses.

Fushimi Inari Taisha is definitely one for the ‘gram, the ancient shrine lined with more than 5000 vermilion Torii gates. The two-hour trek will transport you to an entirely different era, guiding you through the mountain and along wooded slopes replete with sub-shrines.

We recommend going in the late afternoon, when the mountains, miniature shrines and stone foxes are imbued with a bewildering, hallucinatory energy!

Park Guell, Barcelona

A sprawling masterpiece designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, Park Guell will blow your mind. A manifestation of Gaudi’s naturalist period, the 42-acre work of art features a mix of colourful mosaics (made from ceramic pieces), psychedelic cathedrals, and metamorphosing colonnades. Located in La Salut, the park also boasts stunning vistas of Barcelona and the sea, so there’s plenty of epic photo opportunities.

While you’re in Barcelona, you can also pay a visit to Gaudi’s other architectural triumphs, including the Sagrada Familia and Casa Batlló.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Have you ever wanted to visit King’s Landing?

Now that the Lannisters have finally abdicated the Iron Throne, it's the perfect time to visit Dubrovnik, the southern Croatian city famous for being the filming location for the fictional King’s Landing in Game of Thrones

Dubrovnik is even more stunning in real life compared to its mediaeval fantasy counterpart, the towering, 16th century stone walls encircling the city’s rich historical core, aka Old Town. Baroque architecture rises out above the Adriatic Sea, and limestone streets remain stout in the face of recent tragedy (Dubrovnik was tragically shelled in 1991).

Scour the city walls with a regal air and reimagine the Battle of the Blackwater all over again (yes, that’s another GOT reference)!

Milford Sound, New Zealand

There’s a reason why English novelist Rudyard Kipling once described Milford Sound as ‘the eighth wonder of the world’. Located on the southwest coast of New Zealand’s South Island, Milford Sound is a transcendent site to behold. Carved by natural phenomena during the Ice Age, the fiord – narrow inlets created by glaciers – features vast mountain peaks, heart-thumping waterfalls and plenty of rainforest – all the necessary ingredients to a Bear Grylls-style Insta dump!
