She was the face of Australia in 2006, and now 16 years on, Lara Worthington (née Bingle) is more iconic than ever. We caught up with the international model, mother of three and wife to fellow Australian actor Sam Worthington, while she was in Sydney to chat about life as Lara.
When it comes to hair, makeup and getting dressed, what’s your natural order for getting ready?
“I am an out-the-door-in-ten person. I don’t dawdle or take my time doing anything too demanding. I always keep my hair super simple, and makeup is fuss-free, often done in the car en route to an event!”

What is your daily ritual that you never skip?
“Without a doubt, every morning and evening I take a warm shower. No matter how early or late it is, or how tired I might be – it’s a non-negotiable. I find it puts me on the right path at the start of my day, and is a great way to close the day off once I am home and ready for bed.”
What’s one thing in your house that always makes you feel at home?
“Fresh flowers will always make me feel a little more nested, wherever I am – at a hotel or in a new home – it always works.”
What would your wardrobe look like if you were to live in Australia full-time?
“When I come back to Australia from New York City, I notice we dress up more in Australia. I don’t see that quite as much in NYC. I love that. So, I would keep with my cool dresses and polished tailoring if I lived here in Australia again.”
Being a model, you’ve obviously worn a lot of clothes, from bikinis to ball gowns – what outfits bring you the most joy?
“I do love to get dressed up with heels and makeup and go out to an event. That feels really special and particularly nice, as being a mum of three boys – it is quite a rare treat!
Equally, I love my day-to-day go-tos, like blazers with pants, skirts with shirts, and lots of printed tees.”
And what outfit do you secretly wish you could wear forever, no matter the occasion?
“Jeans and a white tee – sounds cliché but it always feels good.”
