Just when you thought everyone had moved on from glazed nails, it appears that the glazed effect is here to stay. Glazed eyeshadow is the latest “glazed” beauty trend to go viral, and it’s just as aesthetically pleasing as its manicured counterpart.
At first glance, glazed eyeshadow might just look like regular shimmery eyeshadow. But similar to the nail version, it gives more of a chrome, almost wet finish. Rather than shimmer and sparkle, glazed makeup is luminous and dewy.
So, how do you achieve the glazed eyeshadow look? Makeup Artist and Educator for Make Up For Ever, Karyssa Leigh, is here to break down the trend.

What is glazed eyeshadow?
“Glazed eyeshadow is an eye technique that has naturally followed on from the recent craze ‘Glazed Donut’ Skin. The trend is dewy, wet looking skin that is natural and luminous. [With] glazed Eyeshadow, think luminous, glossy and light reflecting eyes. To create this chrome inspired wet eye look, you can use any colour of your choice however, What we are seeing the most of right now are colours that include warm tans and coppers, soft pinks and also lilac tones.”

How does the glazed eyeshadow look different to shimmery eyeshadow?
“The glazed eyeshadow trend is opting for more of a shiny eye look that reflects the light in a glowy way, as opposed to eyes that appear overly glittery and sparkly.”
How to get the look
“The easiest way to achieve this look is to work with liquid and cream products. If you tend to get oily lids or any eye creasing, start off with an eye shadow primer to ensure a smooth even base. Next you want to choose your main colour in a creamy formula most commonly found in eyeshadow sticks and pots. You want to choose a product that doesn’t technically swatch glittery but instead look for smooth shimmery shades including soft metallics and chrome like finishes. The glazed eyeshadow trend calls for the shadow to be applied in a very soft, blended way. Apply directly [to eyes] with your finger or using a flat thin brush and blend up and out so it sheers and has no harsh lines. You can create the chrome effect by layering multiple colours on top of each other. These products tend to dry quickly so I recommend doing one eye at a time to ensure there’s enough quick blending time.”
How can we make sure our look stays put for hours?
“Opt for an eye shadow primer first – because this will ensure a perfect smooth base to start with – and a thin application of the cream shadow is essential. A flat brush is best to apply and fluffy brushes are best for blending out. Use a hydrating makeup setting spray to seal it all in.”
