If you’re not on the party-planning committee, sometimes the work Christmas Party theme can surprise you. One year, it’s a tropical theme and the next, it could be something whacky like ‘hats’…
For some, it’s the only chance they get to show off their personal style. So how can you stay true to these strange themes while still looking stylish? Our best tip: wear something you can always wear again.
Shopping for on-trend pieces to add to your costume means you will feel on-point whilst also sticking to the theme.
If you have a ‘90s theme, for example, pick an outfit incorporating the trends being brought back from the decade, for example, a slip skirt paired with a rib tank. You could simply go as Posh Spice in a tasteful black bodycon dress. Alternatively, channel Gwen Stefani in sporty joggers and your favourite crop top.
It works for film and TV themes as well. If you’ve had a Broadway theme thrown at you, go as a character from the musical Rent (where the costumes are just clothes), or, my personal favourite, Miss Hannigan from Annie. All you need is a timeless slip dress – theme and weather appropriate, it’s a double win.
70's or Disco dilemma? No dramas! A full sequin mini dress with balloon sleeves is the way to go.
If the theme is more traditional, like a white Christmas, wear a nice white lace dress and call yourself a snowflake. If it’s a little vague, like bold and bright, convince your team to try the top-to-toe tonal trend and arrive together as a full rainbow.
There’s always a way to look stylish at your work Christmas party – just be inventive with on-trend pieces and you’ll never go wrong!
