Keep your cool this summer with heatwave-proof workwear. Think lots of linen, oversized tailoring and light-as separates that work well, no matter what you throw their way. Whether you’re suited up, business casual or running your own show, we’ve gathered some need-to-knows to keep you looking promotion-worthy, pay-rise ready over the summer months.
Keep your workwear looking sharp
Look like you can take care of business – no matter what the business at hand is. Keep your workwear looking super sharp and audit it on the regular. Don’t hang onto your dress shirts for too long, and once collars fray and stains won’t move, it’s time to say sayonara. Beware, too, of crotch blowouts (they happen to the best of blokes) and keep your t-shirts looking clean and super tidy. This is especially important in summer, as there's less layers to hide behind.
Mix it up
Trying to rock the same look 5 days a week, 52 week a year is enough to wear any one out (unless, of course, you’re Karl Stefanovic and have a point to prove). Keep in your rotation some good-mood dress shirts – a pastel, a stripe, something with a touch of pattern – of a lighter weight to keep your cool. Remember, too, you don’t always have to team a suit with a button-down shirt and tie. Try your blazer with a crisp white t-shirt where the dress code allows. Or a simple short-sleeve shirt with chinos and brogues.
Build your basics up
Match and match summer essentials and make your life easier with pieces that just go together. You can keep your play tonal – building up a solid collection of all-whites, all-blacks or whatever else you’re vibing – or play to your favourite fabrication. This summer, linen is our pick. On our list? Short sleeve shirts, brogues and easy-wear chinos.
Monochrome is a go
Black and white is a great look, but you can trick it up a little too. Try tones of tobacco, navy or khaki. All of these will work well with your black-and-white basics if you want to break it up a little.
Get your fit right
There’s nothing worse than too-tight workwear that you’re stuck in all day. Make sure your fit is on the money. That there’s room to move and not to rub. A note too – if you’re going big, go big. Be bold with your tailoring and keep it free flowing, always.
