5 Summer Essentials To Take Poolside

Press: relax.

“Deep summer,” wrote American author Sam Keen, “is when laziness finds respectability.”

We’re looking forward to a summer of not doing much. A season that’s full of lying around, of finishing one book after the other, and long hours poolside pondering what to have for lunch.

Thanks to our our swim show, we got the lowdown on the accessories we’ll be hitting the pool with this season.

On the list? Big-print party shirts, sleek belt bags, oversized duffels and, as always, pop-coloured towels. And, of course, a flotation device as needed.  Here’s a few suggests for you to send Santa’s way…

For lying around: the towel
Go for something big enough to spread out on. King-size. We like something with a slightly heavier weight to it this season – a towel that will stay put once you lay it out and establish your kingdom. Also handy to double as a picnic blanket to protect you against the summer bindis.

For going places: the backpack
Your carry-everywhere accessory. The perfect size for a towel, a cold one and some light reading. Wear both straps, always: your physio will thank you later.

For the long-haul: the duffel bag
The go-to for those in the market for a long-term relationship with summer days (and, potentially, nights). This is the carry-all that will hold everything you need and more.

The light packer: the belt bag
No longer just a ‘Dads On Tour’ accessory, the belt bag is back this season  in a big way. For the guy on the go, the lightest of travellers. Phone, keys, SPF and you’re game, set and match.
