This year’s National Recycling Week theme is ‘Recovery – a future beyond the bin’ so to mark the occasion, we’re looking at the everyday ways we can help reduce the amount of ‘good’ waste – the things that could be recycled and given a second life – from ending up in landfills. Keeping these valuable materials out of landfills helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as our reliance on virgin resources.
Firstly, ensure you’re properly disposing of your everyday recyclable materials at home.
Remember, not every piece of plastic, paper, glass or metal object you come across can be thrown into your domestic recycling bin. It’s important to understand exactly what can be recycled and what can’t, so that we’re not contaminating the process.
Look out for the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) – an evidence-based system for Australia and New Zealand, that provides you with easy to understand recycling information – now found on most packaging, including THE ICONIC satchels, which are now made of 100% recycled content and can be recycled in Australia via the REDcycle program.
Tip: reuse your ICONIC satchel to collect the recyclable soft plastic waste you might have at home, and keep it by your reusable shopping bags so that you remember to take it with you to the REDcycle bins available at major supermarkets. Find your nearest location at redcycle.net.au.

Secondly, buy items containing recycled content.
The more products you buy made from recycled materials, the lower the environmental impact and the greater use of existing resources.
Since more and more brands are now utilising innovative technologies that transform waste into materials that can be used in fashion, sports and lifestyle products, you don’t have to look far to buy these items.
