How To Choose Wall Art For Your Home

Tips on decorating your walls and starting your own art collection.

If you’ve been thinking about starting your own art collection but are not sure where to begin, simple is always a good first step. Collecting wall art doesn’t just give you a reason to surround yourself with beautiful things, it can contribute to creating the sanctuary you come home to every day. Wall art can improve your space, add to the overall vibe of your home and lift your mood or take you back to a great memory.

The beauty of starting your own collection is that you can personalise the arrangement so that no one will have a wall quite like yours. Start with one piece and grow your collection over time or stock up and play with composition…as long as you have fun with the process, that’s all that matters!

We have a huge range of prints online; everything from travel prints to surf photography, illustrations and rock-inspired vintage wall art. Below you’ll find a few tips to help you get started.

The first step to livening up your walls is to survey your current home decor when it comes to colour palette and overall mood. Some ideas:

If you live in a coastal seaside apartment, complement the atmosphere with some beach photography or a tropical palm print.

If you’re a music fan, try hanging some icons on the wall, or even your favourite record album covers.

If you love colour and culture, there is nothing more mesmerising than Ryhia Dank’s Narduna print series.

If you love to host dinner parties and consider yourself a foodie, perhaps you could go for a print that visually tickles your taste buds!

Research some of your favourite artists/interior spaces to get a feel for what you really like and what inspires you. From there, create Wishlist Boards of artwork you see online to help group themes together and plan your space.

Look at this as your very own curated project; is the art you’re buying something you will love to look at every day? Do they work with your existing furniture? Choose some examples and imagine the selected prints on walls in your house or apartment.

Also consider the proportions and what frame will work well with both the artwork and its surroundings. Whether you’re after a standalone piece for a feature wall or a print that will become part of a larger mix of works, we have standard A4 sizes as well as larger wall art in A2 and A3, making it easy for you to choose a frame to a specific size. Before you buy, it also helps to mark out the size on your wall with masking tape to better understand positioning and size.

Give yourself a budget; beautiful art doesn’t have to cost a lot, so if you have a budget, you can keep within your means and narrow down the search

Create your ideal atmosphere. You might not be able to travel to your favourite destination right now but you can certainly create the mood through some wall art!
