It already feels like aeons ago, but there was a time where hype-led streetwear ruled the menswear landscape. You couldn't move for collaborations, skinny jeans, baggy hoodies and Yeezy sneakers. Everything was about the logo on your t-shirt and the length of time you'd lined up to get your kicks.
But while casual menswear has moved on from those times, streetwear is still very much alive – taking inspiration from street culture as it always has, but with a new twist. Here's what's survived, and what to add to your rotation to make a streetwear collection that transcends the hype.

The Outerwear
From puffer jackets to heavyweight chore coats, streetwear has always leaned heavily on a more wintery aesthetic, and in 2023 that's still very much the case. The play here to opt for timeless brands that combine form with function, whether it be the GORP stylings of The North Face, or the workwear aesthetic perfected by the likes of Carhartt and Dickies.
The Hoodie
Casual, timeless and cosy, the hoodie brings an athletic-inspired vibe to any fit, and still remains the preferred layering piece of cool kids across the globe. Hoodies are a great way to wear your brand loyalties on your sleeve – we personally love legendary brands like Stussy, Champion and Versace Jeans Couture if you’re feeling a bit more flash.
The Layering Pieces
Australia rarely gets cold enough to pile on the layers like you would in the grip of a New York winter, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun pushing beyond the classic jacket-and-a-t-shirt combination. Light jumpers, polos and overshirts feat seamlessly below a jacket, perfect for those days where it's not quite cold enough to rug up, but not quite warm enough to ditch the layers altogether.

The Jeans
Skinny jeans and slim fit denim joggers dominated streetwear for much of the last decade, but in the last few years things have moved on. Drawing more heavily from '90s skate culture and utilitarian workwear, a straighter, looser cut is now the preferred option, offering a greater degree of versatility when paired with different styles of tees and kicks.
The Sneakers
While basketball shoes once reigned supreme, a wider range of sneakers than ever before have worked their way back into the graces of streetwear enthusiasts. Low profile '80s and '90s silhouettes like the adidas Gazelle pair with just about anything, while chunky retro runners from brands like New Balance and Asics are also back in a big way.
