Australia might not have winters like the Northern Hemisphere, but that doesn't mean we can't take some styling cues from them as the weather cools down.
In fact, just as Miranda Priestly’s iconic monologue in The Devil Wears Prada, the biggest trends from the catwalk tend to filter down to our wardrobes.
And with the dust having now settled on Fashion Week across Milan, Paris, New York and London, we now have the blueprint of what the world's leading designers are forecasting as the future of cool weather fashion. The beauty of it all? Our winter comes first, so we can wear it before they do. Here are the biggest trends we spied from the runway and among the street style set.

Baggy, flowy tailoring
The last few years of red carpets signalled the pending doom of the skinny suit, but fashion week, and the spate of awards shows that followed, confirmed that loose, luxe suiting is sticking around for some time to come. As we saw from Kim Jones' Dior and the tuxes on show at the Oscars, the more exaggerated the shape the better.

Statement outerwear
A show-stopping coat is one of the most surefire ways for any man to impress, which might explain why we seem so curiously inclined to invest more in them. This year was no exception, with big overcoats roaring back into fashion at the likes of Giorgio Armani, bombers and harringtons at Raf Simons' Prada, and brash puffers at KidSuper.

Gaudy knitwear
We saw it previewed with last year's Harry Styles-led sweatervest renaissance, but kitschy knitwear, celebrating chunky textures and grandma-approved patterns, is now all the way back. Hermès, Kiko Kostadinov and Paul Smith all hit the runway with jumpers that pushed the boundaries of the art form to their very limit.

Americana
Seeking to bring out everyone's inner Orville Peck, western-style jackets, all leather and tassels, were a recurring theme throughout this winter's shows. Emily Bode's cult NY outfit carried a big country slant in particular, highlighting how good it looks paired with razor sharp tailoring and denim.

Elevated sports style
Call it the evolution of blokecore, but it feels like the days of high fashion brands looking increasingly to the sporting field as a source of inspiration are here to stay. Grace Wales Bonner's collaboration with Adidas on Jamaica's national football kit was a moment to remember, while even Gucci rolled out a rugby shirt in honour of Italy's rich heritage playing the rough-and-tumble game (paired with a floor-length denim skirt, of course).
