At Home With Nawal Sari

Curious to know what it’s like WFH as an influencer? @nawalsari offers us an insight.

As a modest fashion and beauty influencer, and full-time uni student, Nawal Sari already spends a lot of her time working online from the comfort of her bedroom, so we invited ourselves over (virtually of course) and asked her to share some insights, now that we’re all homebound, too.

Where do you send most of your time?
My desk space in my bedroom, it’s where I get creative and where I study. Here, my laptop is essential – for working, studying, sending emails, online shopping and Netflix (I know I’m not the only one!). I have a camera and microphone on hand, which I’m learning how to use. My makeup brushes and makeup drawers are close by, too. And I also have a diary – at a time like this, it’s helping me stay a bit more optimistic, which is very important.

What’s your working-from-home outfit?
Today I’m wearing this top by Stine Goya – I’m obsessed! It’s high-neck, balloon-sleeved and the cutest colour. I’ve paired it with really comfy Wrangler jeans – they’re high-waisted and not too tight, which I like, one, for modesty reasons and also because it’s comfy for when I'm sitting down at the desk. I’ve also got Calvin Klein socks on with my Dazie mules, which have a low, clear heel. Of course, I’m going nowhere, but it makes me feel a bit better to get dressed as if I were.

What do you do to keep yourself busy?
I love playing with makeup and I love creating new and exciting content for my channels. Recently, because I’m home all the time, I’ve felt really sluggish and I don’t want to put any makeup on, which is a lot of the time, but then I watch Youtube and find really fun looks that I want to try.

Recently I experimented with eyeliner, where I applied it all around the eye and then smudged it out – something I’ve never done before. I put a cute top half of the outfit with pyjama pants on the bottom, took some photos with my sister, and just had fun with it. It was a great way to distract myself and feel creative again.

Iso' tip: if you love makeup and have makeup looks you’ve been wanting to try, now is the time to have fun and play around with it.

What do you do to give yourself a screen break?
Because everything I do is online, tech breaks are important to help me stay a bit more positive and not feel anxious or sluggish as I would if I stayed in my room all day. Sometimes I’ll put on a fresh pair of clothes, whether it’s a nice outfit or just a good pair of pyjamas, or I’ll sit with my family and hang out with them, or simply pour myself a fresh tea.
