In a well-rounded travel fantasy, one arrives at the airport with an air of calmness and plenty of time to kill. You’re accompanied by matching tan trunks in an assortment of sizes, impeccably packed and all initialed and sporting a tasteful pyjama ensemble for comfort and maybe a luggage co-ordinated messenger bag. Snacks packed. A bottle of Evian too. And, a book of small intellectual essays on the destination of choice. Doterra essential oils like bergamot to encourage relaxation and sleep. And a satin eye mask.
But, in reality, sometimes the start of your holiday can look like a bad flashback of the 2000s. Screeching up to the terminal in an Uber. All Juicy Couture velour track-suiting, bed hair and bug eye sunglasses to hide the fact you’ve been wired all night (maybe watching Netflix) ‘cause you know you’re going to Tahiti tomorrow. Multiple tote bags that you need to reshuffle. Children possibly dressed in odd socks and their breakfast stained sleep-suits.
So, in the spirit of the five Ps of travel (also relevant to just about everything in life) –
Prior Preparation Prevents P*ss Poor Performance.
We’re sourcing the coolest onscreen in transit moments to get you visualising your next departure. Because as they say in show business, seeing is believing.

Only Lovers Left Alive, Jim Jarmusch, 2013
Only Lovers Left Alive
In Jim Jarmusch’s film about sophisticated modern vampires, Tilda Swinton is the essence of cool. Packing only poetry books in two silver hard suitcases for her red eye flight from Tangier to Detroit. She skims nothing on her flying style - wearing suede and leather - and a pair of Wayfarer sunglasses for the entire journey.

Eat, Pray, Love, Ryan Murphy, 2010
Eat Pray Love
The duffle bag is for the serious traveller. The kind that’s just divorced their husband, sold their belongings and booked a one-way ticket to India. Case in point: Julia Roberts with her hair pulled back, khaki duffle, leather messenger bag and black boots. Just make sure to download Neil Young essentials prior to boarding for aeroplane mode listening.

Darjeeling Limited, Wes Anderson, 2007
