It’s so exciting to give gifts during the festive season, but we can often be left with a lot of trash – the mostly useless plastic novelties that fall out of bon bons, reams of paper – so how can we reduce the single-use wrapping at Christmas? Here are some wrapping alternatives that you can use again.
1. Fabric over paper
A friend once gave me a gift beautifully tied in a beach sarong – it looked festive and I’ve since taken it to the beach and to sit on in the park at picnics. Two gifts in one! You can often pick up off-cuts of fabrics at craft shops or op shops. This also works with lightweight towels which you can make into part of the gift.
2. Tote-ally wrapped
Again, make it part of the gift! Carrying a tote you actually like means you’re never without a shopping bag when you need to grab a few last minute groceries or take your laptop to a cafe.
3. Gift Wrapping At Checkout
This festive season we’re offering to send your gift wrapped in a reusable canvas bag, designed by our in-house designers. Opt for gift wrapping when you check out, and be sure to use the bag to gift others!

4. Go virtual
Let them decide with THE ICONIC’s e-gift card starting from just $25 – no wrapping required!
4. Go virtual

Check out Earth Greetings for Considered cards and wrapping – they're made using 100% post-consumer recycled paper, are manufactured in Australia and donate 10% of their profits so they're a gift that keeps on giving.
And there is no shame in reusing wrapping paper already gifted to you! Extend the life of single use paper if it’s not too damaged. Or even newspaper with some cute stamps over it...
