All The Met Gala 2022 Red Carpet Outfits We’re Obsessed With

The Gilded Age, indeed.

There’s nothing we love more than a sequel that’s actually good, and this year’s Met Gala proved to be just that. The second instalment of the Met Costume Institute’s two-part ‘In America’ exhibit, Met Gala 2022’s mantra was simple: dial up the decadence, or don’t bother.

This year’s exhibit, 'In America: An Anthology of Fashion', provides the historical context for 2021’s ‘Lexicon’ – highlighting the innovators and unsung heroes that contributed to the rich tapestry of the American fashion industry. The theme? ‘Gilded Glamour’, a white tie dress code where attendees are invited (read: expected) to go all out.

The theme paid homage to the United States’ Gilded Age – an era of rapid economic and cultural prosperity between 1870-1900 (case in point: Vogue’s first issue was published in 1892). Everyone from Kim Kardashian to Bella Hadid brought the glitz and grandeur in spades, galvanising the next crop of trends we can’t wait to try.

Blake Lively

The Met Gala co-chair wowed on the steps of the Met (!!) in a gilded Versace gown, complete with gloves, Lady Liberty-esque crown and a draped sash that unfurled to reveal a trailing aquamarine skirt beneath. The crystal embellishments drew inspiration from iconic New York architecture, namely the constellation ceiling at Grand Central Station.

Kim Kardashian

There’s nothing we love more than a signature Kim Met Gala moment, and it doesn’t get more major than the dress Marilyn Monroe wore to serenade JFK. The glittering floor length gown took centre stage, accessorised by her perfectly coiffed hair (that took 14 hours straight to bleach blonde for the occasion), a white furry coat and Pete Davidson in Dior.

Hailey Bieber

Stepping out solo, Hailey donned a liquid satin gown by Saint Laurent with a higher-than-high side split, sheer black stockings and a trailing white wrap adorned with feathers. Trans-seasonal bridal inspo? We think yes.

Kylie Jenner

The wedding vibes continue with Kylie’s frothy ballgown skirt juxtaposed against a fitted white corset top and backwards baseball hat.

Kendall Jenner

Looking like her sister’s evil twin in the best way, Kendall stepped out in a sheer black top, full skirt and one of this season’s bolder beauty looks – bleached brows.

Gigi Hadid

Gigi’s slick red Versace jumpsuit is made all the more extra with a corseted waist and overblown matching cape.

Bella Hadid

The model’s black Burberry corset dress serves boudoir glam in spades, with sheer lace stockings, matching opera gloves and pearls draped around the ankle.

Cara Delevingne

No stranger to a fashion risk, the Brit model took the gilded memo one step further by painting her bare skin metallic gold. Before the big reveal, her red satin suit and gold glittering eye makeup already had us hooked.

Fredrik Robertsson

The Editor in Chief of Boy magazine captivated in a haute couture Iris van Herpen jumpsuit, in all its silvery, pin cushion-style glory. If you ever cop an invite that calls for white tie event dressing, you know what to do.

Sebastian Stan

It’s Valentino. It’s pink. It’s 2022, and it’s the men’s red carpet dressing we deserve.

Evan Mock

Mock further cements himself as a true style player in a buttercream corset-inspired suit from buzzy Gen-Z brand Head of State, complete with the best white ruffle collar this side of that Seinfeld ep.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner

It’s couples dressing done right in coordinating Louis Vuitton, with Jonas’ white suit jacket taking an unexpected (and on-theme) turn with a lace coattail trailing out from beneath.

Billie Eilish

After nailing the brief last year, Eilish returns to the Met in an entirely upcycled custom Gucci gown matched back with some of this season’s biggest beauty comebacks: rosy pink blush and a spiky updo.
