4 Ways To Give Your Wardrobe The Kiss Of Life This Spring

New season, new you (sort of).

Guys Down Under generally like to think they have spring style pretty well on lock. How far can you go wrong, after all, with the classic Aussie staples of a t-shirt, shorts and a pair of sneakers? The answer of course, in the majority of situations, is not very. But that doesn't mean you have to dress like every other dude on the boardwalk. In fact, it's remarkably easy to stand out in all the right ways if you push yourself to try on some new things, perhaps the likes of which you've never thought to wear before. For instance:

Revamp your swimwear

Despite the fact that almost every man in Australia owns a pair, swim shorts are often a bit of an afterthought for most guys – something to be bought off the sale rack for use in those occasions where t-shirts and thongs are seen as the order of the day. But you can do better. Take a little inspiration from the well-dressed men of the Med and upgrade your swimwear to something with a high-end flavour. We love Polo Ralph Lauren's Americana-inspired swim boxers, and the summery look put forward by Aussie brand The Rocks Push.

Embrace breezy materials

Cotton tees and chino shorts are the most typical go-to when it comes to dressing for the warmer shift in the climate, and while these are fine by themselves, there's a whole host of incredible materials out there that look and feel distinctly summery while also embodying a certain savoir faire that looks plucked straight from the Amalfi coast. For starters, try a linen button-down shirt for a casual-smart option that won't leave you sweating.

Invest in a knitted shirt

Harking back to the golden days of La Dolce Vita and films like The Talented Mr Ripley, knitted shirts are now a common sight on the red carpets of Cannes and Venice every summer, and ever-so-slowly filtering their way into the menswear mainstream once more following the resortwear boom of the last few years. And why not? They're breathable, look effortlessly chic, and lend themselves to formal occasions and long, lazy beach days alike.

Upgrade your thongs

It's basically sacrilege to suggest this Down Under, we know, but the last few years have shown us there are far more beach-ready options out there than the classic rubber jandals we've grown accustomed to. Shoes like Birkenstock's Super Birki Polyurethane mules fit the bill, as do the off-kilter slides and sandals put forward by the likes of Crocs, Merrell and Suicoke.
