Why We Don’t Want To Take Off Our Activewear

Sporty Spice was onto something.

We’re long past the ‘is it / isn’t it OK’ of activewear. It’s the trend that shows no sign of taking a rest. Athleisure even earned its place in the Merriam-Webster dictionary last year (true story).

After years of too-tight denim and sky-high heels, we’re embracing comfort with a capital C. With no cool-down in sight, it’s an always-OK from us to activewear on the daily.

And we bet that anyone who has spent time looking after small children / spent hours at a stretch at a desk / had to walk further than to their local bus stop is with us. Even if your gym membership is (technically) more of a direct debit than a fee-for-service, it’s still worth dressing the part. We’re going places, and getting there fast, in speed stripes, soft sweats and Dad sneakers.

The rise and rise of athleisure has rewritten dress codes forever more. Some notes on this style. Parachute jackets are back. Go for anything with a little extra volume. Mix in your favourite denim, or if you’re headed to the office, wear a sweat with a clean-look pencil skirt.

Here’s a few ways to Sporty Spice up your life.

Bike shorts are (still) back in a big way
Yes, still. Since the days of Princess Diana, we’ve fallen, hard, for these glute-gripping, gym-optional shorts. Style them with your favourite crop if you’re on way to a work out or with an oversized tailored shirt if you’re in for day of business.

Match and match
Long live the leisure suit. Sweats that match and match are the perfect way to keep your look looking tidy. Plus: the comfort factor is at an all-time high. This season, we’re all-in for pastels.

Mix it up
Sports crops with your favourite denim and super sharp tailoring to step it up a notch. There’s no need to go all-in on the Sporty Spice look. Just keep your favourite pieces and wear them always.

Here’s a little more on how to pass off activewear as everyday wear.

And some pieces to add to your collection ...

Calvin Klein Performance Quilted Puffer Jacket

First Ever Printed Elastic Trim Logo Top

Libertine Cartel Tour de Bike Shorts

adidas Originals Track Top
