What To Get Your Football-Obsessed Special Someone This Christmas

They grow up too fast. A notion that parents around the world widely agree and reflect on when it comes to their kids. On the other hand, some of us never grow up, and something about kicking a footy (or just watching people who are really good at kicking a footy), brings out our inner child. Like any other FIFA World Cup year, proud calls of, ‘I used to play with him’, and the only mildly disillusioned ones of, ‘if it wasn’t for the injury I probably could have gone pro’, will ring around living rooms across the globe. Ahead of the hype, and with Christmas just around the corner, we figured it was time for a gifting refresh for all the football fanatics in our lives. All in all, there’s plenty to get excited about.

Let’s start simple: soccer jerseys– apologies… Football jerseys. We recently learned that the word soccer is a play on association football because Americans already had football, so there you go. Whoever you’re shopping for, from keen little kickers to past-their-prime players purely in it for the love of the game, nothing says, ‘I believe in you’, like a jersey they can proudly don in support of their favourite team. Plus, if the recent Balenciaga campaign (or any skate clip from the last 10 years) is anything to go by, football shirts aren’t just for playing in these days. Is it finally time for footy shirts and suit pants to rival bike shorts and blazers?

In recent seasons, Arsenal have been better off the pitch than on it, leading the way with popular retro-inspired adidas kits. In a shocking twist of events, their football is finally* scaling similar heights. If fan gear is your winning ticket, Juventus and Real Madrid also pair footballing heritage with the kits to match. Otherwise, you can cross over into the Puma catalogue where Manchester City and AC Milan also scrub up nicely.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: wrap smarter, not harder. And anything that comes in a box fits that bill. Catching out drift? Soccer boots – again, apologies. We don’t make the rules. While our personal style sits somewhere in the realm of early 2000s Predator or no-nonsense Copa Mundials, the kids these days tend to opt for brighter, louder and faster boot selections. Fair play to them. If we’d had Instagram, Youtube and TikTok to inspire our training sessions, playing styles and on-field drip, a lot of things could be different.
