Here's An Idea For Your Worn-Out Gumboots

Because some things are too cute to let go of...
Kids Gumboots for rainy weather. How to recycle your old gumbootsKids Gumboots for rainy weather. How to recycle your old gumboots

Whether the recent wild weather has really put your kid’s gumboots to the test or they’ve simply been handed down over time and there are holes in the soles beyond repair, save them from complete retirement and repurpose them into something clever, like planters that are guaranteed to brighten up your home and garden.

If their gumboots are big enough, you can simply slip a small potted plant inside – it helps to add big rocks at the bottom to help prop the pot up higher and help provide adequate drainage for your plant. Alternatively, add your plant straight to boot – just remember to remove any fabric lining beforehand as this could create an unpleasant environment for roots; ensure there’s enough drainage at the sole by creating more holes if needed; add pebbles to the base then top with soil and your plant of choice (as you would with a regular pot). We planted ours with fresh basil, but you could also try succulents and plants that you can regrow from food scraps.
