What Does THE ICONIC’s Environment Manager Do?

...so what does that mean?
“I work on efficiency projects, such as transitioning to LED lighting or installing solar power, to make sure we reduce our electricity consumption across our sites as much as possible.

I also work on measuring and reducing THE ICONIC’s carbon footprint by looking at lower-emissions delivery options like using electric vehicles for example, more efficient transport of goods from our suppliers to our Fulfilment Centre and less carbon-intensive materials for our products like recycled polyester, recycled cotton and organic wool for example.

Packaging, of course, is another key focus for me, trying to maximise recycled content in all our packaging and looking at ways to reduce plastic consumption. Last (but not least) I work on circular economy models to make sure resources and materials we produce as a business are not wasted but re-invested in new products as much as possible.”

Phew, that’s a lot. What makes you qualified to do that?
“I have worked in the sustainability space for almost 10 years now and I have a lot of experience in the fashion industry. Firstly in Italy (where I am originally from) for a luxury brand called Bottega Veneta and more recently in Australia for David Jones and of course for the past two and half years for THE ICONIC! I've always been really passionate about sustainability and fashion - who isn’t? -Being able to marry these two things in my daily job is priceless.”

What’s the biggest thing that’s happened in your life this year? 

“I love staying outdoors as much as I can whether it's going for long walks - the coastal walks in Sydney are AMAZING, running or just enjoying a good cup of coffee in the sun. It doesn't matter as long as I'm out in nature.”

Tell us what you mostly work on.
“We are currently creating our new 2025-2030 sustainability strategy. It's a lot of work but I'm loving it!”

Why is it important that THE ICONIC has a Sustainability team?
“It’s important for any business really to have a Sustainability team to be resilient and ensure we help protect our mother earth and our communities.”

What’s been your proudest moment in the company?  
“Definitely the launch last year of our 100% post-consumer recycled content delivery satchel!”

What are you excited about in the future of our sustainability journey?
“Super excited to explore circular economy models for our products and expand the work we are doing on reducing our carbon footprint!”
