While we absolutely love our bronzers and we would never want to be without highlighter, blush may just be one of the greatest gifts given to our makeup routine.
Skin looking a bit flat? Try some blush! Need to accentuate your cheekbones in a really soft, subtle way? Try some blush! Want to make it look like you’ve just run up some stairs and are a little flushed (but not as sweaty)? Try some blush!
The right application can help transform skin by boosting radiance and adding that natural warmth that gives your skin energy, vibrancy and life. But therein lies the very slight, teeny-tiny problem - nailing the application.
While we all generally know where blush goes (on the cheeks, where you’d normally naturally flush), the specific placement can vary depending on your face shape. While there are plenty of tutorials that can help you figure it out, most of us don’t really know if we’re a circle, heart, triangle or oval face shape, and so that can make things a little more confusing.
But bless TikTok creator Angela Lanter, because she has delivered the blush hack we’ve all been missing. Welcome to the easiest blush application tutorial ever, and even better, it suits every single face shape.

All you need is your hand, a cream blush and a blush brush (or sponge), and here’s what you do.
- Make an ‘L’ shape with your hand - thumb on the horizontal, the rest of your fingers sitting perpendicular to it.
- Place the tip of your thumb at the base of your nostril (right at the end, you don’t want it too close to the centre of your nose). Make sure it’s positioned straight out towards your ear, and your forefinger is running up the side of your face, skimming the tail of your eyebrow.
- Apply your blush in the rounded corner where your thumb meets your forefinger.
- Use your brush or sponge to blend the colour in across your cheeks.
- Repeat on the other side.
While you get the hang of this, we recommend applying a small amount of blush bit-by-bit until you get your desired result.
And if you’re wondering why cream blush as opposed to a powder, it’s because the texture allows for easy and natural blending of the concentrated colour that’s applied to the corner. A cream (or even liquid) blush is also a great option for a natural, dewy and glowing finish.
