Last year was all about mindfulness, the Keto Diet and GOOP’s favourite, the jade roller, however this year we’re gearing up for a whole new bunch of weird and wacky ways to stay healthy.
Vibration-infused water
Thought water couldn’t get any better? Think again! This year, along with your sparking and flavoured water, you’ll start to see waters ‘infused’ with vibrations. Already on the market are waters infused with the frequency of rainbows (430 and 770THz, for all your scientists out there) and chakra tones. And if you want something a little more DIY, you could pick yourself up a water bottle with an infusion insert designed to house crystals…

Recovery Classes
Forget HIIT and boxing, this year is all about the act of recovery. Stretching studios have started popping up in Sydney and Melbourne, and specialised recovery centres and some gyms now offer float tanks, Cryotherapy and infrared saunas. The idea is to avoid injury, stress and anxiety by scheduling in your stretch or float tank session as you would your favourite gym class. It can be exxy, though, so try a good bath soak or YouTube stretch class if you’re feeling skint.

Collagen bars
In terms of skincare, collagen has been an ‘it’ substance for a few years now, but this year, it’s all about actually consuming collagen. Studies show that consuming collagen can have increased benefits for your skin, hair and nails, and as it’s the most abundant protein in our bodies, it can also help us look younger. One of the best ways to eat collagen is with protein collagen balls and bars, which are popping up in supermarkets. Even though collagen is generally sourced form animals (sorry, vegos), don’t worry, it doesn’t taste like jerky; most protein bars have flavours, like fudge chocolate and raspberry swirl.

Specialised wellness retreats
Along with the usual yoga and relaxation retreats, this year we’ll also see more specialised retreats, like ‘mumcations’ (for new mums), ‘painmoons’ (after a bad experience), ‘fertility trips’ (for couples trying to conceive) and even retreats for those who have gone through menopause or a recent divorce.

Eating Mealworms
While eating crickets has been around for a while now, this year we’ll see the emergence of a range of new bug offerings. You’ll be able to sprinkle ant-infused salt over your chips, treat yourself to mealworm chocolate, or add some cricket protein powder to your smoothie. And you might even see a few of your favourite cafes add bugs to their menu. Why? Bug protein is high in vitamins, minerals and amino acids, plus they are low in fat.
