The Best Running Tracks in Each City

Make your next workout more exciting with an inspiring view

Tired of staring at the same spot on the wall while you’re running miles on the treadmill at the gym? Take your training outdoors and you’ll be surprised to see how much further you can go when there’s a better view in sight.

To give you some inspo, we’ve listed out favourite tracks in every major city.

Sydney

If you live in Sydney, take your workout from Maroubra to Clovelly. It’s a coastal track that’s less crowded than the popular Bondi to Bronte route, with plenty of picture-perfect views to dwell on when you need a quick breather. The total distance is roughly 5km one way, so if you’re thinking of taking on this year’s New Balance challenge, then you can knock it out in one return trip.

Melbourne

For the Melbournians who don’t want to run alone, why not take part in the Albert Parkrun, organised every Saturday morning at 8am. It’s free to join the 5km course, which circles the outskirts of Albert Park Lake and puts you in prime positioning to enjoy the city skyline. You’ll be able to go at your own pace, and if you’re new to running, you can pick up some tips from the friendly volunteers who run the event.

Brisbane

If your usual Brisbane running route is starting to bore you, head to South Bank and take on the city’s most famous track. Start the 7km path early by the water at Eagle Street Pier, cross over to Kangaroo Point for a bit of a stair challenge, then make your way across the Goodwill Bridge and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Botanic Gardens.

Perth

Running anywhere along the Perth coast is always more inspiring than training on a treadmill. Tick off every paved beach path and tally a total of 25 kilometres of uninterrupted beach views, or if you’re up for a real challenge and you’re a serious runner, take your workout inland and tackle the Mt Helena Long Run – a whopping 23km track with hills and off-road terrains.

Hobart

If you’re new to road running, then the Domain Loop in Hobart is made for you. The 3km secluded track will take you around the leafy Botanic Gardens and will provide you with a panoramic view of the northern suburbs.

Auckland

Sometimes running in a group is more motivating than any sea view, so if you’re in Auckland and don’t want to go it alone, then consider joining the Cornwall Park run club. It’s free to join and the park’s paved trails take you on a loop around rolling farmland. There’s also an option to sprint up One Tree Hill if you’re up for the challenge.
