Steve Irwin: Unlikely Style Icon

Everyone’s favourite wildlife warrior was onto something

A man after my own heart (well, wardrobe), Steve Irwin wore khaki at every opportunity. The national treasure lived in his adventure-ready uniform beyond the bush, to talk show appearances and red carpet premieres. We get that as everyone’s favourite ‘90s ‘Crocodile Hunter’, out there in the wild, cuddling pythons like they’re kittens, easy, khaki separates are just practical. You want something functional and tonally, as neutral as possible. We’re into it.

Really into it...

Not the first person that comes to mind when you need to be sartorially inspired, but hear us out. Done right, there can be something fly-under-the-radar cool about utilitarian khaki pieces - in roomy overalls, button-up shirts and trenches. Typically, street style is all about standing out in traffic-stopping colours and capturing the attention of Tommy Ton, but this trend is less ‘stand-out-get-noticed’ and more… blend in, get noticed anyway.

An extension of the coming season’s grounded, ‘Down to Earth’ tones, soft, olive-y hues are easy to blend with the new neutrals - sand, rich browns and aptly, animal prints. Plus, consider the practicality of deep, utility-style pockets with more than enough room for your phone, cards, lip balm and an afternoon snack. (Pockets are the secret tiny handbag hack, people.)
