So, You’ve Got A Tropical Party

Here’s how to stick to the theme but still look chic

Themed parties are always fun but it’s hard to tell how far you should take the dress code. For instance, when the theme is tropical, are they expecting you to go dressed as a life-sized pineapple or is even adding a flower lei to your cocktail outfit a bit too much?

The safest bet – stick to these looks that are faarshun but still have a tropical feel.

Juicy Fruits

It’s one of the easiest ways to tick off the tropical trend. Avoid placement prints on tees and look to floaty skirts or collared shirts instead.

Leafy Patterns

Palm fronds are guaranteed to lend your wardrobe a tropical touch but if you want something a little more abstract, try seaweed silhouettes.

Flower Power

Hawaiian shirts have come a long way from just being tacky tourist souvenirs. Find styles that are slightly more tailored and will look good with tan chinos or linen shorts.

Animal Instincts

Go wild with leopard spots, tiger stripes, tortoiseshell patterns and feathers. The best part is you’ll be able to wear them again and again even when there’s no tiki theme involved.

Tropical Tones

Sometimes vibrant colours, like island paradise blue or sunset red, are enough to give your look that beachside buzz. Try wearing an all-white outfit with tropical-coloured accessories to get your “costume” over the line.

Beach Accessories

Think shell earrings and braided bracelets rather than beach balls and flamingo floaties. They’re easy to work into your everyday wardrobe too, bringing your cost-per-wear way down.
