Ski Gear is Fashion and It’s Got Nothing to Do with Antarctic Winds

This season’s Tailored Elegance trend is the ultimate mash-up of tech-wear and tailoring.

If you spent the last couple of days hibernating in a doona burrito (guilty as charged) then you may not have noticed that it was a little bit colder than usual, in fact, icy. Antarctic winds made their way up from the south and sent more than just shivers down our spine. The near-freezing temps brought snow into towns that hadn’t seen frost in decades, but strangely enough, extreme weather isn’t the only reason why people are bringing out their ski gear.

The puffer phenomenon – whereby the fashion crowd made ski jackets chic with fashion items like a slip dress and kitten heels – has evolved and it’s looking real cool (pun intended).

Not to be confused with athleisure, the Tailored Elegance trend focuses on modern tailoring with just a touch of sportswear on top. Think après ski, but at the office. It’s windbreakers and ski shades, but with blazers and business shirts.

It’s the trend that justifies your technical sports investments. That puffy snow jacket? Worth every penny when you wear it every day. That wet-look performance anorak and those speed racer sunglasses? It’s time to let them shine.

Just not all at once. The trick to nailing this trend is to keep feminine tailoring at the forefront and add sports-luxe elements one at a time. Start with a coordinating blazer and trouser set, add a bumbag and kitten heels, and if it feels right, top off your look with sporty shades. Keep a 70:30 ratio of tailoring to tech-wear until you find your rhythm, and you’ll land every look with the same grace and poise as a gold-winning Olympic ski jumper every time.
