“It’s Gorgeous And It Fits… So Why Not Wear It Again?!”

More and more red carpet events are turning into a friendly reminder to outfit repeat and we are here for it.

Whether you want to call it a trend or just simply a more economical and conscious style move, rewearing ‘old’ outfits is becoming increasingly popular among the celebrities and we love to see it. Just look at this year’s Oscars after-party celebrations for inspiration.

Director, actress and producer Elizabeth Banks wore the same after-party dress from 16 years ago, “It’s gorgeous and it fits… so why not wear it again?!” she captioned on Instagram. Her style move also came with a very important message “to bring global awareness to the importance of sustainability in fashion and consumerism as it relates to climate change, production & consumption, ocean pollution, labor & women”.

Actress and climate change activist Jane Fonda rewore the same beaded Ellie Saab gown she first debuted at the 67th International Cannes Film Festival in 2014, along with her famous red coat which she declared was “the last article of clothing” she would ever buy back in November.

And author, columnist and savvy businesswoman Arianna Huffington also rocked a repeat outfit she first wore to the same event in 2013. “I’m a big fan of #repeats. When you own something you love, wear it again and again. It saves time, money, mindshare and the environment!” she shared on her social channel, along with the other outfit repeats of the night.

Now for some, outfit repetition might be easier said than done - people grow and change and outfits from +15 years ago won’t always fit the same as they did when we first bought them - but that shouldn’t mean we ignore the sentiment. Start with the styles you have now, wear and rewear those as much as possible to continue the ‘trend’. If you need to shop new, consider how many ways you could wear that item - if you can’t think of more than one, then maybe it’s not the best investment for your wardrobe. And when you’ve repeated the look as much as you physically can, and the clothing item is still in good quality, you can always give it a second life with our Giving Made Easy program.
