Our Top Takeaways From Copenhagen Fashion Week

Here’s what happened at Copenhagen Autumn/Winter 2022 Fashion Week!

While not as experimental as London, or as boujee as Paris, Scandinavia's premier fashion week produces garments for fans of all styles from the minimalist and the vibrant.

While not as experimental as London, or as boujee as Paris, Scandinavia's premier fashion week produces garments for fans of all styles from the minimalist and the vibrant.

As expected, brand mainstays like Wood Wood and Soulland brought their offerings to the table this season, and obscure designers like Henrik Vibskov hit us with a conceptual assortment that almost broke the internet. The street style is also inarguably just as important as the shows, as it’s known that the world’s fashion elite descend on the streets of Denmark at this time of the year.

This season there was a solid array of women’s designer accessories, lifestyle-geared footwear, plenty of new trends and of course, classic Scandinavian design. Here are our top takeaways from Copenhagen Fashion Week!

Wood Wood

A CFW constant, this year legendary Scandinavian brand Wood Wood may have had their best collection yet.

Employing Danish painter Tal R to be a part of their presentation, Wood Wood explored his extensive archive and repurposed his art pieces into garments. They created beautiful collaborative clothing such as the Cowi Vogel cardigan. Denim was also a heavy presence throughout the show as well, where subtle workwear influences and Tal R’s brightly painted works were all mixed in with the darker hued fabric.

Noteworthy Trends

Usually in the high-fashion universe, runway and street style trends tend to coexist. During this past CFW, there were plenty of flashy fads lining the catwalk and the streets, with fluffy fabrics like fleece and faux fur running rampant. Fleece has been in-vogue for a long while now and CFW provided a lot of it. Malene Birger boasted a head-to-toe look featuring a matching fleece skirt and sweater, and Soulland also went full fluff, showing an all-over cosy look and epic accentuated leg warmers.

Samsøe Samsøe, a brand rooted in simplicity absolutely led the charge when it came to another common trend, that being pleats, showcasing multiple looks favouring the folded fabric vibe.

Street Style

Bringing your attention purely to the streets of Copenhagen, showgoers could be seen flexing plenty of eye-popping outfits. Among the countless striking looks, there were a few trends that were well worth noting. Big ol’ boots was one, it seemed to be a favourite for the season. Our eyes darted between Bottega Puddle Boots, Moon Boots and even the classic Duck Boot.

The other key street style trend was the use of clashing patterns and colour-blocking. While it’s not necessarily a groundbreaking concept, it’s always a pleasant surprise to see patterns and colours working together – when they technically shouldn’t! Examples of this included plaid skirts with graphic jackets and loud patterned pants with contrast colour vests.

Modern Yet Classic Scandinavian Design

Aside from all of the street style antics and photo opportunities, the touches of classic-turned-modern Scandi design was a huge highlight. One brand that stood out this season was Gestuz, who’re known for building wardrobes for the contemporary woman. For their AW 2022 show, they presented clean lines and simplistic, well-fitting garments, which are sure to add just a touch of flair to any wardrobe.
