Order In: Our Takeaway Favourites For Staying In

#StayHome, eat pasta.

As we hunker down for who knows how long, our thoughts turn – as they almost always do – to food. No matter where your culinary skills sit on the Nigella scale, chances are you won’t want to DIY the whole time we’re in lockdown. Getting fed, skipping the washing up and supporting small businesses – specifically, the ones who have fed us for so long –  is a win win (win).

Lucky for us, there are a raft of businesses who have pivoted to serve takeaway during these weird times. All you need to do it scroll through the ‘gram to see what your local has on offer. The trick is to call your dinner-of-choice direct so they don’t lose out to delivery companies. You can drive by for contactless pick up or call direct for delivery.

In our hood? Bondi’s Ode posts daily specials on their Instagram (don’t skip the Fagioli al Sugo), while the home of the ‘Best Schnitzel In Sydney’, Paddington’s The Unicorn is now at the other end of the phone as is the Mary’s (Get Fat) burger you’ve been craving. Also on their takeaway menu: a pavlova. How could you not?

And in even better news, a lot of them are doing takeaway / delivery wine too. So, pre-empting the ‘What’s for Dinner’ question, we’ve rounded up a few of our faves.

Dear Saint Elouise, Potts Point
The gang are offering Ragazzi DIY pasta packs and hampers to see you through the now-really-long weekends. Bring on the carbs.

Chin Chin, Surry Hills
And just like that, our dreams came true. Not to skip: the Stir-Fry Eggplant, the Papaya Salad and 400 Rotis.

Sean’s Panaroma, Bondi
Pick and and go from the carpark. If Jenny’s tarts are on the menu, don’t pass them by.

The Shop & Wine Bar, Bondi
This husband-and-wife-run business have migrated their whole menu online and are now doing a family pack of their famous Italian Meatballs. Also: Bloody Mary takeaways, among other goodies. Lucy will also be doing a produce box – think vegetables, fruit, the bread of your choice, free range eggs and a little something from the kitchen (fingers crossed for more meatballs).

We know and recognise that ordering-in for many right now is a luxury. Meals For Mates – a new initiative giving 4000 free home-delivered meals to out-of-work hospitality workers across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – is putting up $25 vouchers on the daily for ex hospo staff doing it tough. If this is you, be sure to email mealsformates@pernodricard.com with proof of employment and they will help you out.
